Limp Bizkit, Anthrax, Dropkick Murphys, Chas, Dave And More

Armed with their insanely catchy and infectious rock, Limp Bizkit are returning to Knebworth as special guests to Friday night headliners, The Prodigy. No band have played more Sonisphere festivals across Europe than Anthrax and having graced the stage of every UK Sonisphere to date they return with their only UK festival appearance of 2014 and guitarist Scott Ian saying: “I’m so excited for Anthrax to be a part of the biggest and best Sonisphere ever! Can’t wait to destroy Knebworth again!”

The last time Chas & Dave played Knebworth was to support Led Zeppelin in 1979 and as Chas says: “We went down well at Knebworth in ’79. Not surprised we got a return booking.” Get ready for a proper sing-along. From cockneys to corpses, death metallers, Carnifex are “very excited to be part of a Sonisphere for the first time”, and promise an extremely brutal set.

Another act promising a special show are Devin Townsend Project. The visionary, artist and entertainer behind the project says: “Amidst a year of relentless writing and planning, we are fortunate to be invited to a select few shows, and among the most cool is undoubtedly Sonisphere UK! It’s an institution that is really exciting, among bands we absolutely love. We can’t wait to take a studio break and come entertain.”

And raise your glasses and get ready to pump your fists to Celtic punks Dropkick Murphys who are set to make their Sonisphere debut, as are post-hardcore, Canadian five-piece Silverstein.

One band that know all about Sonisphere are The Sisters Of Mercy. At Sonisphere UK 2011 they made their first festival performance in 20 years. Three years later they’re back. “We had such a good time playing Sonisphere in 2011 (for the Sisters’ first UK festival in 20 years) that we’re coming back, to celebrate 40 years of gigs at Knebworth. Christ, that’s even older than us. We’re looking forward to seeing you all (even though you might not see us).”

Another band making a triumphant return are The Virginmarys. In 2011 they appeared at Sonisphere as an unsigned three-piece from Macclesfield. Fast forward three years and following support slots with the likes of Slash, Eagles of Death Metal and Queens Of The Stone Age they come to Knebworth with the Classic Rock crown of the ‘Best Breakthrough Act of 2013′. Finally, London classic metallers, Voodoo Six also return having played 28 shows in 18 countries with Sonisphere headliner Iron Maiden last year.
