Alice In Chains, Slayer, Mastodon, Airbourne, Ghost, Gojira and Karnivool will join headliners The Prodigy, Iron Maiden and Metallica at Knebworth House over the weekend of 4-6 July for Sonisphere 2014.
Like Iron Maiden and Metallica, seminal American rockers Alice in Chains will be making their only UK festival appearance of 2014 at Knebworth and singer William Duvall says: “We’re very excited to be playing once again at Sonisphere, particularly as this year has us joining our long-time friends in Metallica. It should be a fun ride for everyone – both on and off the stage.”
Thrash-metal gods Slayer are also expecting to have a good time as they bring their ferociously demonic live show back to Sonisphere, following their 2011 performance as part of the Big 4 line-up alongside Metallica, Megadeth and Anthrax. Guitarist Kerry King says: “It’s great to be back at Sonisphere this year!! Always a giant party!!”
Slayer‘s won’t be the only special set. The mighty Mastodon will give British fans the first chance to hear tracks from their forthcoming new album, while Joel O’ Keefe from Australian rockers Airbourne promises: “To get out there on Knebworth’s hallowed ground in front of that sea of heavy metal maniacs and give them every ounce of blood sweat and energy we got.”
Infamous Swedish doom-rockers Ghost are one of the most talked-about bands of recent years and they too are relishing bringing their ghoulish stage presence to Sonisphere UK for the first time. “It is an honour to be playing at the unholy ground that is Knebworth, where so many classic rock concerts have taken place throughout the years,” says A Nameless Ghoul.
French progressive-metallers Gojira and Australian five-piece Karnivool will also make their sole UK festival appearances of 2014 at Knebworth with Gojira frontman Joe promising that, “we can’t wait to come and kick your British asses!” and Karnivool guitarist Drew Goddard saying: “We can’t bloody wait to get back to play Sonisphere UK 2014. Sonisphere Knebworth was actually the first European Festival we ever played a few years ago, so it will be nice to come back.”
Many more bands, including two special guests, will be announced shortly.
